David Whipple became a permanent resident of Laurens in 1865. He had been wharfage collector on his uncle’s pier in New York City since 1849, and had frequently traveled from his home in Laurens by stage coach to Albany, and then by streamboat to the city. His wife managed their large house during his absences with the help of various neighbors, who were hired for laundry, ironing, cleaning, and gardening. Today, Dave and Lori have beautifully remodeled the entire house and made it into the Brookside Inn at Laurens.
Welcome to Brookside Inn, operated out of the historic Whipple House in Laurens, Cameron and Matthew are sharing the beautiful charm of an historic site by opening it’s doors and welcoming guests to experience a piece of traditional upstate New York. Matthew and Cameron have worked in the hospitality industry across the USA from New York, Philadelphia, Miami, San Francisco, San Diego and Los Angeles. They met on a romantically raining evening in San Francisco and thereafter Matthew relentlessly pursued his beautiful “California Girl” before she gave in to their first date, a drive through the countryside of NorCal and a surprise picnic lunch at Marshal’s famous Hog Island Oysters. It was quickly discovered their combined dream of owning and operating a bed and breakfast, utilizing their complimentary talents to provide an especially delightful lodging and culinary experience for their welcomed guests.
